Ratatouille Wallpapers

The character designs for the next Pixar movie "Ratatouille" make me sick.

So sick that I have forced myself to watch the
trailer for this movie about 30 times.

How sick is this animation? Look at the eyes. Look at the line of action on the blue guy as he's running. Look at that stunning fat walk by the red guy. Hell, look at those hand poses on the waiter at the beginning. That's some sick character animation folks.

The staging is simply unreal. Even in the opening shot take a look at the cars, where are they going? They're going the same place your eye was. It's making me gag, hang on. When they pause as blue rat is mid air to tell why he's in that predicament. When they introduce the blue rat. All so good.

The sickest part though are the character designs, we're talking about simple rats btw, these are some of the best rat designs I have ever seen. The blue one with his purple eyelids and slender build. I downloaded the HD version of the trailer and little things amaze me like the fur on their ears, the pink of their skin.

I'm feeling sick I tell ya! And I am not one of those Pixar fanatics either, I mean I like their movies like everyone else, but this one, this rat movie, has the potential to destroy.

I made three nice, clean wallpapers from the trailer. (1280x1024)

You can really see the detail in these and I like clean uncluttered wallpapers so I thought I'd share. Click on the pictures for large wallpaper versions.

There are big improvements in the newest trailer and the preview. See for yourself.

BTW, a trailer isn't the same as the movie. Nemo? The first trailer sucked.

Just saw the full film yesterday, and it was a home run, IMO. Leaving aside the crazy-good animation, the voice acting was also top-notch, the story was simple yet engaging, and there were tons of jokes. I haven't laughed so much at a movie for quite a while.

Thanks for producing such nice quality wallpapers, Rick! One of them is gracing my desktop as we speak... :)

Pixar hit another home run!... I love it. The best movie, with good story of you can be whatever you want to be! All you need is passion and love what you do.

If I wanted to post these somewhere else/share them, would it be okay as long as I credited and linked back to your page (the entry of the wallpapers)?

I just left the theater and I cannot say enough about how splendid this film was. I haven't laughed that giddily in a long time, nor have I left a movie on such a high cloud before. So many fantastic things to rave about it and yet such a simple story and idea --zest for life and the joy of having passion for something, even if it is somehow in spite of what the world restricts you to. Few movies can hold one's attention fixedly --and especially with repeated viewings, but I am so sure that this film would hold up and keep making me smile every time I watched it. There is simply not enough good to be said about Ratatouille. Bravo, Pixar!

The one thing that weirds me out is how flowing the cheese is and how dappled with light. The light is sort of fibrous and the settings seemed to me a bit too soft for some reason. Particularly when I examine enlarged wallpapers. It's a bit too smooth.

Food, spices, flowing cheese, dappled light...when it comes to Pixar, these I expect. What I didn't expect was the ability to capture the personality and culture of rats. Yes...I said personality and culture.

I rescue rats and keep them as pets. Fancy and domestics rats, not sewer or street rats.

Rats live in societies (despite what is normally depicted as evil, scurrying, random-like behavior) much like Remy's family, where they sleep together, get into scuffles and get into arguments over food.

They also grieve when losing a loved one.

Although I have never personally had a rat that could cook or displayed most of the anthropomorphic traits you saw in "Ratatouille", the movie, it was wonderful to see such care taken to depict them as the intelligent, opportunistic, shy, interactive, clean (well, Emile could use a bath), attractive and kind animals they are. See: New York Times 07/10/2007: "Rat to Rat, Kindness Takes Hold", by Nicholas Bakalar.

Overall, a big 5 Stars from Me, RatLadyMom in Boulder
